Details

First, we develop a conceptual design for the required vessel, considering transport needs, route planning, and port restrictions. Next, we provide a basic plan and performance calculations, and prepare technical specifications and general arrangement drawings. Based on these, we formulate project plans including costs estimation and construction schedules.
If shipbuilding or modification is decided, we prepare bidding documents for shipyard selection, support bidding (evaluation, qualification screening), and assist with contract negotiations. After the contract, we provide consistent support including drawing approval, inspection of major equipment during manufacturing, and supervision during ship construction.

Shipbuilding Project Planning for Developing Countries under ODA

Developing countries often lack vessels for transporting people and goods, inland/river ferries, workboats for infrastructure, and patrol vessels for maritime safety. Moreover, they also lack the capacity to plan suitable vessels, as well as funding and facilities.
Japan Marine Science supports the formulation and execution of shipbuilding project plans for developing countries. If the project is adopted as an ODA project, we conduct various feasibility studies and detailed designs as consultants. During shipbuilding, we act as consultants for the implementing agency, supporting shipyard selection and construction supervision.
Japan Marine Science has shipbuilding achievements under ODA in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, the Middle East, and Africa.

Shipbuilding Plans for Local Governments and Public Institutions

We provide and support shipbuilding plans for workboats owned and operated by local governments and public institutions, such as port workboats, fishery patrol boats, surveillance vessels, oil recovery ships, firefighting boats, and passenger ships.
Experienced ship designers in Japan Marine Science carefully study and provide renewal and new construction plans for these vessels. We scrutinize cost estimates and construction schedules to set appropriate project costs and timing.
Recently, compliance with various agreements such as the 2006 Maritime Labour Convention (MLC), environmental measures (e.g., for NOx), alternative fuels, and proper ship recycling has become necessary. We also investigate these for modifications, not just new buildings.

Shipbuilding Plans for Private Companies

We support the planning and preparation of shipbuilding plans for private companies, from ferries to cargo and special-purpose vessels. We provide concrete proposals even at the idea stage, tailored to your needs.
Japan Marine Science has experience in planning, exterior design, and construction supervision of amphibious vehicles. For extending the life of existing vessels, we propose specific measures and recommend replacements for hulls, engines, and electrical components based on vessel condition diagnosis.
