Underwater Hull Inspection

Japan Marine Science provide various in-water surveys required by classification societies, as well as pre-docking assessments of hull conditions (including fouling). Our services also cover evaluations of hull coating conditions, such as film thickness measurement and paint sampling for analysis.
Our expert techniques quickly and accurately detect damage and abnormalities on hull plating, sea chests, bilge keels, rudders, propellers, and other fittings.

Underwater Hull Cleaning

Japan Marine Science provide fast and efficient underwater hull cleaning services using our proprietary cleaning technology.
Hull fouling caused by marine growth increases drag, reduces vessel speed, and raises fuel consumption, potentially leading to engine overload. Regular cleaning is essential to maintain performance and prevent operational risks.
Through extensive research on the growth and adhesion mechanisms of marine organisms, as well as the properties of silicone and antifouling coatings, Japan Marine Science has developed a large hull cleaning machine equipped with marine growth collection devices, compact hand-held units, and specialized cleaning brushes. Our expert divers and innovative tools deliver precise, efficient hull cleaning.

Propeller Polishing

Japan Marine Science provide propeller polishing services that enhance energy efficiency. Performing this work underwater eliminates the need for dockside scaffolding and delivers significant cost savings.
Our propeller polishing achieves A or B grade—the highest standards—on the UK Rubert Scale. Combined with hull cleaning, this service delivers exceptional energy-saving benefits.

ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle)

In recent years, ROVs have increasingly replaced divers for certain tasks.
Diver operations face many limitations—such as water pressure, working time, and temperature—and in Japan, they can only be performed during daylight hours. ROVs are not subject to these restrictions and, while limited to simpler inspections, they can operate safely for extended periods as long as power is supplied.
Japan Marine Science can also accommodate remote requests, allowing you to view the vessel’s hull condition and underwater environment from your office—just like a diver’s CCTV inspection.
